School Closure Announcement March 17th 2020
I am writing to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to close the academy building at the end of today. You will know that we will not have taken this decision lightly. Although we do not have any confirmed cases, it is necessary at this current time due to the number of staff and pupils who are having to follow the public health guidance that has now been released and the resulting health and safety arrangements. This means that the academy will not be open to pupils from Wednesday 18th March 2020. At this moment in time, we are unsure of how long the academy will be closed for and will update you as and when the situation changes.
Although the building is closed, we are still expecting your child to undertake daily learning activities. Pupils have been issued with a series of home learning packs on google classroom dedicated to their year group. A separate sheet has been compiled outlining both the learning expectations and how pupils will access this learning. Pupils can access this from any device that has an internet connection. It does not require any specialist software. Pupils who are struggling to log into google classroom or their school email will need to contact the email address on the website and we will arrange for their password to be reset. If you do not have access to the internet at home, or you feel that your child would benefit from a paper pack, then please let us know, ideally by 10am on Friday 20th March and we will arrange for a pack to be sent out to you. At this moment in time we do not know how long the school will be closed for, so it is important that your child continues with their studies to keep their mind active.
As well as the work that has been created for pupils, we will also be keeping in touch with you in a variety of other ways and we have asked you to make sure that you have access to our parentmail app, the school website and social media feeds. It is also important that your child checks their school email account and they can use this to request further teacher support, should this be required. The academy enquiries email address and the parentmail app will continue to be checked throughout this period of closure. Beyond Wednesday 18th March 2020, in case of urgent safeguarding concerns, or emergency situations whereby you need to get in touch with the school and the school number is not being answered, then please call 07538766803.
A school community is so much more than its building. We have reminded our pupils of the importance of living out our values within our communities and the need to look out for each other during this period of time. I am confident that members of our school community will show themselves in the best possible light and demonstrate our values in action. I am unable to say at this point how long the school will be closed for. For those with children in Year 11 who are preparing for their GCSE examinations, it is imperative that pupils take this time to proceed with their preparations for these examinations, ensuring that they use all the resources available to them, seeking help as required. As soon as we have further information from the national bodies, we will communicate this with you.
In the meantime, the best advice that we can give is to continue to follow all national guidance. Please keep your children indoors, so that they are supervised, safe and so that they can engage with the remote learning provided. Encourage them to continue to have good hygiene routines and keep checking the academy website, social media and parent apps for further updates.
Sending the warmest of wishes to each one of you and to those that you care about and thank you for your continued support and understanding at this difficult time.
Mrs Rebecca Smith
