Principal’s Welcome

Hello,

I hope you find all the information that you need on our website, and that it gives you a small insight into the Academy and what makes it such a special place to be.

We are proud to be part of the Co-op Academies Trust. Built on the same principles as all cooperatives across the world, we work together for a better education and a better community.

Being a part of the Trust brings many additional opportunities for our pupils, including links to the Co-operative Group. You can read more about our Co-op Commitment here.

Our focus on high aspirations and expectations are essential to making sure that all our students have the skills they need to go on to lead happy and successful lives. We encourage respect for ourselves and for others through developing a range of skills both within and beyond the classroom.

We work together as a community to achieve the very best. From 2014-2016 we were the most improved school in Manchester; our substantial improvements are the result of our continued drive for excellence. Many subjects achieved excellent results; with the percentage of students achieving A*-C and A*-A in Maths being both above the National Average and the highest across our Trust.

In the Academy we have a multi-tiered auditorium, a dance studio, specialised music and media equipment, and a cinema. All of these are used regularly by students and the local community.

Our pupils have achieved a range of awards that reflect their excellent leadership skills.  The student council received a ‘highly commended’ Speakers’ Award and the academy a ‘Democracy Award’ this year. Our commitment to our values and those of our sponsor were reflected in the achievement of the Fair Achiever award due to our commitment to Fair Trade. Inspectors described the Academy as a ‘calm, positive place to be’ with pupils demonstrating ‘positive attitudes to learning.’

We understand that success isn’t limited to academia, we pride ourselves on offering an extensive extra-curricular provision. From BMX biking to coding club there is something for everyone. We also offer excellent pastoral care and our pupils have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers, engage in work experience and visit other establishments as part of our careers provision.

Our partnerships with other organisations enhance the experiences that our pupils have. Successful partnerships with The Manchester Metropolitan University and programmes such as ‘Researchers in Schools’ gives us access to cutting edge research to inform our teaching.  And our partnership with The Manchester United Foundation has given our students unique experiences and access to world-class sports training.

Our Academy’s values of Respect, Trust and Commitment are found in all we do and we aim for excellence each day as we work to enable our pupils to be equipped to lead both happy and successful lives. I look forward to welcoming you to our Academy so that you can find out for yourself what makes it so special.
