Drama

Overview

The department benefits from the academy’s state of the art auditorium which provides both teaching spaces throughout the day and a spectacular performance space for academy productions. As the space has been in place since the academy opened, staff are well trained to understand how to utilise it to maximise learning. Pupils have achieved excellent outcomes at GCSE and many go on to study the subject at College.

What does our curriculum include?

The curriculum is designed to enable pupils to develop a wide range of skills whilst also exploring topics which challenge them to think about different viewpoints and experiences. Pupils have the opportunity to watch live theatre performances both inside and outside the academy and use these experiences to develop their evaluative skills.

There is a rich extra-curricular offer including a KS3 drama club, the ‘youth theatre’ group and collaborations also take place between Dance, Drama and Music culminating in the annual academy performance. The academy is involved in the Shakespeare in Schools Festival which provides pupils with the opportunity to choreograph their own interpretation of a well known Shakespeare piece.
