Parent Digest, Half Term Three - February 2025

As half-term 3 comes to a close, we write with such pride in the many accomplishments of the last half-term and to share with you some of the upcoming events that your children will be involved in.
Lights, Camera, Action!
We have our brilliant school production of ‘Moana Jr.’ underway. As this reaches you, many, many hours from cast, crew, teachers and support staff have enabled a really professional performance and an unforgettable educational experience for all pupils involved. Thank you for supporting this - Performing Arts is such a central part of our offer here at Co-op North Manchester and the support from home is greatly appreciated.
Personal Development
We are extremely proud of our personal development offer for students, the way in which it supports their understanding of the world around them and how it cultivates a culture of respect, tolerance and inclusion. We were delighted as part of this to have been able to invite a Holocaust survivor into the Academy to share his experiences with us and deliver workshops. The students were praised for their maturity, conduct and the way in which they demonstrated both our Academy and Trust values.
Working in partnership
As always, it was a pleasure to welcome parents and carers of Year 9 and Year 11 students this half-term. The Year 9 event was a precursor to our upcoming Options evening where pupils will receive all the information they need about the range of courses we offer for study at GCSE. For our Year 11 cohort, it was a final opportunity for you to meet with subject staff prior to the GCSE Summer examination season commencing. The event was really well attended, and it was great to be able to share strategies on how best to support your child over the next few months.
Our Year 11 performed well in their mocks and our staff are eager to support them further by providing an extensive offer of revision sessions after school (period 6, 3.05-4pm) every day after half-term. To support our pupils and to help them decide which sessions to attend, we have provided them with bespoke individualised revision timetables, taking away their worry of trying to decide which sessions to attend. Sessions are compulsory as it is so important at this point that revision is purposeful, and we appreciate your support in this matter. Also, look out for our Easter and May holiday revision timetable which will be published soon, together with several Saturday sessions.
Wider curriculum
In addition to the fantastic work students are producing in lessons, there have been some real successes outside of the classroom. Co-op North Manchester’s Art department organised a Trust wide competition linked to the theme of ‘identity’ which culminated in an exhibition at Angel Square in Manchester. All Coop colleagues were able to vote on their favourite piece and the clear winner was North Manchester’s own Ava-Grace Foster in Year9. The piece is included below and I know you will all agree that it is brilliant.
There are hundreds of other students in our school community, just like Ava-Grace, who demonstrate their talents, follow their passions and attend multiple extra-curricular clubs from the 80 we offer each week. Our second cohort of burgeoning poets have begun the First Story Writer’s programme so look out for our next anthology which will be published later this year!
Respect, Commitment and Trust
As always, all that we do is underpinned by our Academy values of Respect, Commitment and Trust. We were able to demonstrate these to 150 school leaders from across Co-op Academies Trust who spent two full days completing training on our site. Our visitors commented on the calm and purposeful environment and left with wonderful opinions about our school, our pupils and North Manchester.
Looking ahead…
As we look ahead to half-term 4, there are more opportunities for pupils to hone their skills and follow their passions with the Trust Culinary Competition, the Maths Olympics and a range of sporting competitions. There will be further opportunities for collaboration with parents and carers at Year 9 Options and Year 10 Progress evenings and our incoming Headteacher, Tabitha Sloper-Russell, will begin to spend more time in the Academy with us in the lead up to her arrival after the Easter break.
Edurio
Thank you for all of your engagements and support this half-term and moving forward. We will shortly be sharing with you our annual parent and carer engagement survey which is collated by Edurio. We want to open up a communication channel where your voice is heard and organised in such a way that we can create the best learning environment for your child. Please look out for the link which will include all the instructions required for the survey. Thank you in advance for the information you provide. It will ensure we can continue to work together for the best in everyone.
I hope the half term break provides a welcome break and some important time as families and members of the brilliant North Manchester community. As always, if you need anything - uniform or otherwise - please get in touch via our enquiries email.
Best wishes
Ben Sinnott, Interim Head Teacher
