Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

• protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
• preventing harm to children’s health or development
• ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
• taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

If you are concerned about a pupil in our academy, however small it may seem, you can report this to 
noma-concern@coopacademies.co.uk. This includes concerns over a change in appearance (including weight), attitude/behaviour, as well as concerns raised by the child themselves or by others.

All safeguarding concerns are looked into and relevant actions are taken.

If you are upset or concerned about yourself or someone you know there are lots of ways to help:

You can speak with any adult in the academy who will pass your concern to the safeguarding team.

You can write your concern on a piece of paper and post it in the safeguarding box in the yellow winter garden.

You can email your concern to noma-showyoucare@coopacademies.co.uk.

Sometimes we have visitors into the academy who speak to our pupils.  All external visitors who are meeting with pupils must have a current, enhanced DBS certificate. External agencies will be asked to provide the academy with the name of the person(s), together with their DBS certificate number and issue date before meeting with pupils. No visitor will be allowed to meet with a pupil alone unless we have verification of documentation.

All visitors to the academy will be asked to sign in and out. They will be provided with a copy of the academy Safeguarding leaflet.

During term time we are on hand to offer pupils and their families a high level of support. If you need to seek advice about your child, you should contact their Form Tutor or Pastoral Manager in the first instance. They will then advise on what to do next and may refer the matter to someone else. Further details are outlined in our Safeguarding leaflet.

If you have any worries about a child’s safety or welfare, you should speak to a Contact Officer at the Manchester Contact Centre on 0161 234 5001 or fax on 0161 255 8266. The Contact Officer will then notify the First Response Team of your concerns.
