Year 7 Pupils Shine at Poetry Anthology Event

On Wednesday, 13th November, former Year 7 pupils had the exciting opportunity to showcase their creative talents at a special poetry anthology event. These pupils, who took part in the academy’s first Story Project last academic year, spent 13 weeks collaborating with poet Nik Berry to develop and refine their own original poems. Their hard work culminated in a beautifully printed anthology, capturing the unique voices and perspectives of each young poet.

At the event, pupils proudly performed their poems before an audience of family members, friends, and the next cohort of aspiring Year 7 poets. The evening celebrated the creativity and dedication of these young writers and inspired the new group to embark on their own creative journey. The event highlighted the academy’s commitment to fostering a love of literature and self-expression, leaving the audience moved and inspired by the power of poetry.

Adding to the atmosphere of the evening, the academy’s very own Friday Night Band delivered an outstanding performance, setting the tone for an inspiring and memorable event. Additionally, our talented GCSE Hospitality and Catering pupils contributed their skills to the occasion, assisting with catering and ensuring guests were well looked after.

Alex Lockhart, Assistant Head of English added:

“ We welcomed parents, carers, guardians, siblings and community council members to our small yet mighty event to celebrate the brilliant writing of our poets in Year 8. Hearing what they think and want to write about was powerful, alongside the new group of poets was a wonderful way to celebrate. A great representation of music, poetry and community spirit from members of our academy. Here’s to more poets in the academy and more moments to celebrate writing about what you think and feel!”
