Pupils Honour Remembrance Day in Moving Ceremony
On Monday 11th November, Year 7 pupils attended a poignant Remembrance Day assembly, led by our Head of History, Mr. Charlton. The event was held to honour the sacrifices of those who served in conflicts past and present.
Mr. Charlton opened the ceremony with a moving reflection on the importance of Remembrance Day, discussing the historical significance of the day and the sacrifices made by men and women in the armed forces. Pupils listened attentively as he read an extract from Historian Dominic Sandbrook’s book ‘The First World War’ detailing stories of bravery and resilience, and courage.
Year 10 and 11 pupils shared readings that underscored themes of sacrifice, courage, and remembrance, adding a personal and reflective touch to the assembly.
Following the address, a two-minute silence was observed across the school, allowing pupils and staff a chance to reflect and pay their respects. The ceremony concluded with a reading of traditional remembrance poetry, leaving pupils with a powerful reminder of the value of peace and the importance of remembering those who gave so much.
Mr Charlton added:
This annual observance serves as a tradition at Co-op Academy North Manchester, strengthening the community’s respect and gratitude for those who gave so much. The event was a meaningful opportunity for pupils to engage with history and honour those who have served, fostering a sense of gratitude and respect within our school community.
