Parent Digest - Half Term Two, December 2024
My last Digest and my final few words to you and your families. It’s been a really difficult decision to move away from a school that I have worked in for over a decade, and yet I am going with such an incredible sense of pride in all that has been achieved. Our values and our vision are in action every single day, and it was a real highlight this week, particularly to see so many pupils being rewarded for their excellent attendance and attitudes once again.
I have to recognise in this the incredible efforts and dedication from the brilliant staff here who ensure that your children not only benefit from an ambitious and broad curriculum but also the superb extra curricular offer and personal development curriculum.
The Spring will bring many more opportunities for your child - I’m sure I’ll be hearing great things about 2025 onwards. I’ve asked for a saved seat at Moana and Sweeney Todd, so I’ll be back to see so many of you there, I’m sure. I have attended lovely assemblies with each year group today, and they’ve been told just how proud I am of them and the things I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, they will go on to do.
Mr Sinnott has written a few words of introduction, and I’m so grateful for his encouragement and support in all my time in the ‘big chair’ - I know he can count on all your support next year and beyond.
Have a lovely break and I hope 2025 brings you and your families the most happy and successful of time.
Sharon Hands (the incredibly proud Principal of Co-op North Manchester)
A message from Mr Sinnott, Interim Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to introduce myself as the newly appointed Interim headteacher at Co-op Academy North Manchester. My name is Ben Sinnott, and I have been serving as a Vice Principal at the Academy since 2020. I am excited to embark on this new journey with you and your children and will ensure that the fantastic work led by Ms Hands and the Trust continues in the Spring term prior to the arrival of Mrs Sloper-Russell who will start with us at the beginning of the summer term.
I was fortunate enough to attend North Manchester High School for Boys as a student and joined what was Manchester Creative and Media Academy as a newly qualified teacher in 2011. My entire career in education, spanning several years, has been spent as part of this establishment and during that time I have had the privilege of working in various roles that have enriched my understanding of student needs and what makes our community so special. My vision for Co-op Academy North Manchester is to continue the fantastic work Ms Hands has begun, to foster an environment where every student feels valued and empowered to achieve excellence and so that they go on to lead happy and successful lives. I am committed to leading our school towards excellence and providing the best for your children.
I strongly believe that open communication and collaboration with parents and carers are vital for the success of our students and the school. Your involvement in your child's education is invaluable, and I am eager to build on the strong partnership that exists between us. Together, we will continue to create a supportive and thriving community that nurtures the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students.
Throughout the Spring term I will send out regular updates to celebrate the successes of your children and to keep you informed about the arrival of Mrs Sloper-Russell. Thank you for your continued support and trust in Co-op Academy North Manchester. As a community, we will work together for the best in everyone.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Ben Sinnott
Some highlights from this term:
Festive Card Competition
This year, Miss Beaumont held a competition for our Year 7 pupils to design the academy Christmas card, with the challenge of including something that represented the academy. The entries were truly fantastic!
Harrison was named the winner for his brilliant design, with Sarra, Merab, and Cara-Lily as close runners-up. All four pupils received a prize for their outstanding efforts.
Harrison's winning design was transformed into a digital e-card, which has been shared with our wider academy community. Additionally, all four designs were printed as festive postcards and Christmas cards. Our pupil leadership teams spread holiday cheer by sending these to a local care home.
Rewards Trips
We are delighted to share that the Christmas rewards trips were a tremendous success this year, with hundreds of pupils earning their place through their hard work and positive behaviour. In addition, a group of Year 11 pupils were invited to join the celebrations in recognition of their exceptional prefect applications and interview performances.
Set Sail with Moana JR.
On Wednesday 12th - Friday 14th February 2025 – Disney’s Moana JR. is playing at Co-op Academy North Manchester. The 60-minute musical adventure is based on the 2016 Disney film Moana.
Careers Events
As our Year 11 pupils progress on their GCSE journey, the academy has been dedicated to guiding them as they explore options for their post-16 pathways. To ensure they are fully informed and prepared, the academy has hosted a series of events designed to introduce pupils to various educational and career opportunities.
Year 7 Pupils Shine at Poetry Anthology Event
On Wednesday, 13th November, former Year 7 pupils had the exciting opportunity to showcase their creative talents at a special poetry anthology event. These pupils, who took part in the academy’s first Story Project last academic year, spent 13 weeks collaborating with poet Nik Berry to develop and refine their own original poems. Their hard work culminated in a beautifully printed anthology, capturing the unique voices and perspectives of each young poet.
Important Updates Regarding Arbor
We would like to extend our gratitude to all parents and carers who have engaged with the new Arbor system. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, helping us to communicate effectively with our community
This term, we successfully launched the new absence reporting feature, and it has proven to be a great success. Moving forward, we kindly ask that all pupil absences are reported exclusively via Arbor. This streamlined process makes it easier for parents and carers while helping the academy maintain accurate attendance records.
For the most convenient access to your account, we recommend downloading the free Arbor Parent App, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Through the app, parents and carers can:
- Receive push notifications to stay informed about important communications
- Check their child's academic timetable
- Book appointments for Progress Evenings
- View positive behaviour points for their child
- Sign up for academy trips and educational visits
- Update and manage contact information
- Purchase school uniform
- Top up their child's lunch account
- Report their child’s absence
