Mathematics
Overview
Teaching in dedicated Maths rooms, the department is well resourced to enable all pupils to develop their mathematical skills. The department has its own dedicated numeracy Higher Level Teaching Assistant and Academic mentors. This enables more individual work to both stretch and challenge pupils, as well as to support them. Pupils have achieved great success in the UK Maths Challenge, being awarded bronze, silver and gold awards. Links with local Primary Schools are well established where we offer additional booster classes to pupils.
What does our curriculum include?
As soon as pupils arrive at the school, the curriculum is designed to both develop and deepen their understanding of fundamental mathematics in a more functional context. GCSE Mathematics is compulsory and the department has achieved the top grade 9s in both examination series to date.
There are a range of extra-curricular activities in Mathematics which include participation in National Maths challenges. enrichment opportunities, Maths clubs, Chess club and a dedicated Year 7 problem solving club.
