Diversity Role Models Inspire Year 7 Pupils with Inclusivity Workshops
We were delighted to welcome Diversity Role Models, a registered charity dedicated to fostering inclusivity and tackling LGBTQ+ bullying, to our academy this week. Their powerful workshops encouraged our Year 7 pupils to explore the importance of empathy, respect, and allyship within our school community.
Through engaging discussions and personal stories from role models, pupils gained a deeper understanding of the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and how they can contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. The interactive sessions allowed pupils to ask questions, reflect on their own experiences, and learn how small actions can make a big difference in creating a culture of acceptance.
Mrs. Fiddler, Assistant Vice Principal for Inclusion, shared her thoughts on the workshops:
"It was fantastic to see our Year 7 pupils engaging so positively with these important conversations. Creating an inclusive school community where every student feels valued and respected is a priority for us, and the work of Diversity Role Models is truly inspiring. These sessions have helped equip our students with the understanding and empathy needed to be strong allies and role models themselves."
At our academy, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil feels safe, valued and respected. Initiatives like these align with our ethos of promoting kindness, diversity and equality, empowering our young people to be inclusive members of society.
One of our Year 7 pupils also shared their thoughts on the session:
"I really enjoyed the workshop because it helped me understand what it means to be an ally. Hearing real-life stories made me think about how important it is to be kind and support people, no matter who they are."
Another of our year 7 pupils stated:
“It has inspired me to present my own session about my disability in year 7 to inform others that it is okay to be who you are. The session was really enjoyable, and it helped to teach people about inclusivity.”
