Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child choose their registration group?

At Co-op Academy North Manchester we want to ensure the transition from primary to secondary school is as smooth as possible for each pupil.

Pupils don't get to choose their registration group, but we use information supplied by the primary school for registration group placement.

What if my child doesn't know anyone in their registration group?

We ensure that every pupil is in a registration group with someone they went to primary school with. We want then to see a familiar face on the first morning.

Pupils will be in different classes for some subjects and they will meet new people every day in those first few weeks. Before long, these new pupils will become friends.

If a pupil is attending is joining us from a primary school and none of their peers are coming to Co-op Academy North Manchester, we will put them in a registration group with a pupil in a similar situation.

Does my child need their PE Kit on the first day?

No, pupils do not need to bring their PE kit on the first day of term.

On the first day, they will receive their timetable outlining their lessons. From the second day onwards, they will follow their full timetable and should bring their PE kit when required.

What equipment will my child need for school?

Pupils will need:

  • A bag suitable for carrying their A4 exercise books;
  • A pencil case containing pens, pencils, a ruler, and an eraser;
  • A refillable water bottle;
  • A coat suitable for the colder months.

How much lunch money will my child need?

At Co-op Academy North Manchester we run a cashless catering service. Pupils don't need to bring any money to school.

Parents and carers must upload money onto the pupil’s account. This can be done via the Arbor Parent Portal/App. Registration information for Arbor will be provided to parents/carers in July, before term starts in September. This will give parents/carers the chance to add money before pupils start in September.

You'll find more information about our catering here.

How do I apply for free school meals?

Your child may have been eligible for free school meals during their time at primary. However, this eligibility would have come to an end as they left primary school. Parents and carers must apply free school meals before their child starts secondary school.

You can find more information about free school meals here.

What time does school start?

The academy is open from 08:00 each morning.

We operate a free breakfast club in the canteen from 08:00-08:25. Any pupil is welcome to attend.

A 5-minute movement bell will sound at 8:30am and pupils must arrive at their form room for 8:35am.

You can find more information about the academy day here.

How will my child get to school?

The academy has two dedicated bus services, the 715 and the 722, operated by Travel for Greater Manchester.

You can find information about the 722 here

You can find information about the 715 here.

All young people using the school bus or pupil transport will need to apply for an igo card. This allows young people aged 11–16 to travel using child tickets on buses and trams in Greater Manchester.  Pupils can apply for an igo card by visiting the Information and Ticket Office or by post.

Some pupils may be eligible for a free school bus pass.  Applications must be made with your local council. You'll find links to the relevant councils below:
