Modern Foreign Languages
'Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.'
Our shared vision as Modern Foreign Language specialists at Co-op Academy North Manchester is to empower pupils to develop a natural curiosity about the world in which we live and embrace the different cultures we experience, building the linguistic and cultural literacy, adaptability and curiosity to thrive. Our curriculum covers the National Curriculum and GCSE specifications and instils the value of languages as a subject, equipping pupils with the emotional resilience and confidence to communicate with spontaneity and increasing levels of accuracy across a variety of contexts. Pupils reflect on and analyse their work and are set ambitious targets. The extra-curricular offer provides pupils with opportunities to broaden their horizons culturally and geographically, liberating them from insularity.
We are proud to be able to celebrate and promote the vast range of languages and communities that we are fortunate to have within the academy. As the Modern Foreign Language department our belief is that through the excellent teaching of French and Spanish we can create a culture in which our pupils flourish and leave the academy with the necessary skills to not only become a confident communicator, but also to become a conscious and active global and European citizen eager to embrace opportunities and experiences in the world. The curriculum we have designed and offer to pupils plays a pivotal role in transforming our vision into reality.
