Co-op Academy North Manchester is praised for its ‘broad and ambitious curriculum’ as we continue to be 'Good'

Co-op Academy North Manchester, received a ‘continues to be Good’ judgement in its April Ofsted inspection.

The report commends the school for its ‘broad and balanced curriculum’ which means ‘pupils are rising to the school’s high expectations of achievement.’

Ofsted said:

“The school has designed an ambitious and well-defined curriculum. The school has identified the important knowledge that pupils need to know and when it should be taught.”

It goes on to report that "As a result, pupils articulate their understanding effectively. Pupils’ work shows that they are knowing and remembering more. Furthermore, they communicate well and appropriately. This helps to prepare them for their next steps after school.”

It acknowledges the quality of teachers who are: “adept at introducing new vocabulary and ensuring that pupils use it correctly. As a result, pupils articulate their understanding effectively."

Ofsted praised pupils’ behaviour, reporting that ‘they are respectful towards staff’ and that ‘pupils are very clear about how the school expects them to behave'.

The school is proud of its culture and pleased to be recognised, yet again, for the 'calm atmosphere' at school where pupils are happy. They are committed to the school and to serving the community."

The report also recognises pupils' dedication to volunteering and extra-curricular, and the work done in personal and careers education, so that pupils' can 'go on to ambitious destinations’.

Inspectors said: “There is a raft of leadership opportunities, including being a mental health ambassador, sports leader or sitting on the student council. These positions allow pupils to support and represent their peers.”

Principal, Sharon Hands, said:

“We continue to be incredibly proud of our pupils, staff and community and this latest report is a recognition of our significant improvements over time. Our 2023 exam results represent how well pupils achieve here, and the fact they do so in line with all pupils across the country, is a remarkable testament to staff, parents and carers.

“We are even more delighted that the inspection team took the time to get to know us and our pupils and recognised their hard work outside the classroom in extra-curricular, volunteering and leadership responsibilities. Our values of respect, commitment and trust are captured in this incredibly positive report. Most importantly, the inspection team described our pupils as ‘happy’, said they felt safe and that there was a strong culture of safeguarding."
