Pupils and staff start a conversation for Time to Talk Day
On the 1st of February, pupils and staff gathered to observe Time to Talk Day, a collaborative effort by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness in partnership with Co-op. This event aims to foster open discussions surrounding mental health, working towards diminishing stigma and cultivating a supportive atmosphere. It presents a valuable occasion for individuals in friendships, families, communities, and workplaces to unite in conversations that positively impact well-being.
A day of activities planned by our Community Pioneer took place in the library. Pupils and staff were encouraged to engage in conversations with our Mental Health Ambassadors. The day featured opportunities to craft keyrings adorned with positive words, play games and partake in mindfulness colouring.
During lunchtime, staff members were invited to gather, share, and converse over a slice of cake and a warm drink, contributing to the spirit of open dialogue and support.
Sandra Fiddler, Vice Principal at Co-op Academy North Manchester said :
"At Co-op Academy North Manchester, every day is Time to Talk Day. We actively encourage dialogues between staff and pupils, fostering a positive sense of well-being. Today has been amazing, seeing numerous individuals take a moment to initiate a simple conversation."
Julianne Noon, Community Pioneer at Co-op Academy North Manchester added:
"It has been wonderful to meet the staff and pupils on a more personal level. Everyone has been so kind, polite and positive. What a great day!”
Pupils commented throughout the day on how much they enjoyed the activities. They said it was nice to put some time aside to just simply talk to each other.
