This year has been an incredible one for Co-op Academy North Manchester, with pupils enjoying a wide range of exciting opportunities and experiences with the continued support of the Manchester United Foundation.
Here are some of the highlights so far:
Football Success Across Year Groups
This year has been particularly rewarding for our football teams. In November, our Year 7 girls' football team impressed at the Clarice Cliff training ground tournament. With guidance from two of our dedicated young leaders, the team played brilliantly, securing an impressive 2nd place finish. Their teamwork and determination were truly inspiring.
In December, our Year 8 football team shone at the MU Foundation Tournament, competing against 15 other schools. Their skill and resilience were on full display, ending with a fantastic record of 11 wins, 2 draws, and just 1 loss. Meanwhile, our Year 9 pupils demonstrated leadership by taking on officiating roles as part of the MU Refereeing Award programme.
The excitement continued into the spring term, with both the girls' and boys' football teams winning tournaments at The Cliff training ground. Additionally, some of our KS3 girls were selected for the Girls' Football Festival at The Cliff, further sparking their passion for the sport.
A Magical Christmas Experience
In December, some lucky Year 7 pupils attended the MU Foundation Christmas Party at Chill Factore. They enjoyed an introductory ski lesson and had the chance to explore the snow park, creating lasting memories in a winter wonderland setting.
Spreading Warmth at Christmas
The MU Foundation also showed their generosity through a Christmas giveaway, providing winter essentials such as blankets, gloves, and hats. Pupils were invited to select items for themselves or gift them to others in need, promoting kindness and community spirit during the festive season.
Year 8 Pupils Rewarded for Dedication
Our Year 8 pupils, who consistently engage in extra-curricular activities and attended the MU Foundation summer camp, were rewarded with a special trip to the Manchester United Museum and a stadium tour. This experience gave them an exclusive insight into the club’s rich history and the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of football legends.
Social Action and Unique Opportunities
Our Social Action Group proudly presented their project at the PL Inspires event at Old Trafford, finishing in an impressive 4th place out of 16 partner schools. Pupils also had the chance to visit local universities, where they took part in workshops, gaining valuable insights and inspiration for their future.
As part of our Black History Month celebrations, a group of pupils took part in a powerful Show Racism the Red Card workshop at Old Trafford. They had the opportunity to engage with professionals from a range of industries and take part in an inspiring Q&A session with former professional footballer, Wes Brown and rapper Avelino. The event was a fantastic celebration of diversity and inclusion. Pupils also expanded their horizons by attending STEM-focused activities such as CyberFirst, where they explored careers and skills in technology and cybersecurity.

To cap off an incredible term, Reggie in Year 9, was selected to go on the MU Foundation trip to Cyprus, an unforgettable experience that included visits to a camel park, sports activities, a zoo, an RAF base and more.
Alex Howarth, MU Foundation School Partnership Officer added:
“Pupils are selected for such opportunities for a variety of reasons, including outstanding attitudes towards learning, going above and beyond, volunteering, extra-curricular involvement and participation in MU Foundation programmes at school. Our pupils always represent the academy in an excellent way at these events, and it was brilliant to end the term with some deserving pupils meeting several Manchester United first-team players, an experience which featured on BBC's Match of the Day on Sunday, 13th April. We hope you tuned in!"
Looking Ahead
As this term comes to a close, we reflect on the fantastic opportunities and experiences our pupils have had, thanks to the MU Foundation. Their continued support has empowered our pupils, fostered teamwork, and created unforgettable memories. We look forward to even more incredible moments in the coming months!
