Our pupils set sail on a breathtaking theatrical journey as they brought Disney’s Moana JR. to life on stage over three unforgettable nights, from the 12th to the 14th of February 2025. In addition to the evening performances, a special matinee show was held exclusively for the pupils of Charlestown Primary School, ensuring the magic of live theatre reached young audiences.
The talented cast delivered a heart warming and visually stunning portrayal of Moana’s quest to restore the heart of Te Fiti, captivating audiences with their powerful performances, dazzling costumes, and dynamic choreography. From the moment the show began, the energy and enthusiasm of the young performers shone through, bringing the vibrant world of Motunui to life with every song and scene.
The production was a testament to the hard work and dedication of both pupils and staff, who spent months perfecting their roles, fine-tuning the musical numbers, and bringing the beloved Disney story to the stage with passion and precision. The spectacular set design and impressive lighting effects further enhanced the experience, transporting the audience to the Pacific Islands and immersing them in Moana’s epic journey of self-discovery and bravery.
A standout performance was delivered by Indie, Year 7, who portrayed Moana with confidence and charm, capturing the character’s resilience and determination. Brodie, Year 9, as the mighty demigod Maui, provided a show-stopping performance, balancing humour and heroism in equal measure. The ensemble cast also played a vital role, ensuring that each scene was filled with energy and emotion.
Parents, teachers, and community members alike were full of praise for the production, with many commending the pupils for their professionalism and commitment to their roles. The show’s success was evident in the standing ovations and enthusiastic applause that filled the theatre each night.
Matt Asher, Head of Performing Arts expressed immense pride in the cast and crew, stating, “The dedication and talent displayed by our pupils have been truly inspiring. It has been an absolute joy to watch them grow throughout the rehearsal process and deliver such an incredible performance. They have brought so much heart and soul to this production, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
